ZENITH

« Back

According to legend, as Georges Favre-Jacot was walking under a starry sky one night in the Swiss mountains, he saw his watches’ movements shaped among the stars. This experience led to the idea of baptizing the movements Zenith; the highest point in the universe.
In 1865, the Zenith company was founded in Le Locle, adopting a star as its logo. Thus began a journey studded with success: to date, Zenith holds 1565 awards, more than 50 great calibres and company boutiques all around the world, from New York to Paris, Moscow to Tokyo.
During the 1930s, Zenith diversified its production and manufactured parts for the French, British and Italian Navy.
During the 1940s, Zenith continued its research and specialized in developing new movements.
Returning to the fundamental stages of production, 1969 was the year that Zenith released El Primero, in addition to the arrival of quartz. El Primero was the first integrated movement chronograph, beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour and remains the fastest automatic chronograph and the most precise in the world. This absolute accuracy, as well as allowing it to exceed the COSC tests, also ensures 50-hours of watch autonomy.
From 1972 to 1978, Zenith became part of the American Zenith Radio Corporation and, in 1984, the company decided to re-launch its production of mechanical watches.
During the 1990s, the company began producing creative watches like the “extra slim Elite movement”. At the end of the decade, the LVMH Group (Louis Vuitton Möet Hennesy )was established.
The new millennium began with a new style that was seen as classical, yet innovative, traditional, yet modern. In 2002, Zenith presented four new movements and fourteen new models, represented in 52 variations.
The year 2004 marked the first Tourbillon (Zenith Grande Date à Rattrapante El Grande Chronomaster XXT Tourbillon Chronograph).
The year 2005 marked the release of the first Haute Couture watch designed for women; the Zenith Starissime, and the complicated chronograph Grande Class Traveller  Répétition Minutes El Primero.
In 2006, Zenith released the Grande Port Royal Tourbillon and the sport-chic collection, Defy Xtreme.
The main event to mark 2008 was the arrival of the 8800 Torbillon Zero-G (zero gravity) movement, that comes in two designs; the Zenith classic and the Zenith Xtreme; both available in limited edition.

If you visit the brand’s official website you can find the Philosophy section, titled “a watch or a work of art”, one of Zenith’s mottos.
It is also worth viewing the Special section that includes e-cards, wallpapers, screensavers and videos to view or download.
